Working For Idaho

Lawerence’s oldest daughter, after serving as a page in 1985, told him that he should run for the Legislature. Many of the following evenings’ discussions centered around politics, and the seed was planted. Lawerence was first elected to the legislature in 1990 from District 13 (a floterial district) which covered nine counties from Adams County to the Nevada border (Owyhee County). He currently represents District 9 (counties of Payette, Washington, Adams and one precinct from Canyon County). The district is about 130 miles long.

Lawerence has served as Assistant Majority Leader, Majority Leader and is now Speaker of the House. This is a great honor because those in leadership positions are elected by their peers.

During his time in the Legislature he has served on the Transportation, Resources & Conservation, Health and Welfare, State Affairs and Revenue & Taxation, and Ways and Means committees. During his first year as a legislator, he sat in on the JFAC committee meetings to learn the budget side of the process, and he recommends all first-time legislators follow his example.

Lawerence enjoys his time in the Legislature, serving the people of District 9, but his most enjoyable time is spent with his children and eight grandchildren.
